Map + Visual Tour Illustration Project – Anywhere

Map + Visual Tour Illustration Project – Anywhere

Once home to a Native American tribe known as the Essalen, Esalen Insitute is situated on 27 acres of spectacular Big Sur coastline with the Santa Lucia Mountains rising sharply behind.

We have an existing property map and various other materials to use as a departure point, but would like to re-draw our property map with a warmer, more artistic and soulful quality that conveys the magic of our land and 52 year history.

See our video at:

And our “virtual tour” at: to get an overview of our property.

This freelance/contract illustration and deisgn project includes working with our Marketing Manager, Guest Services team, and aerial maps and photos and the existing map to create a visual tour/orientation of our property for new guests and seminarians.

Established in 1962, Esalen is a leading center for exploring and realizing human potential through experience, education, and research. We work toward the realization of a more humane and all-embracing world, seeking answers to questions unlikely to be explored by traditional universities and religions.

We’d prefer to work with an illustrator/artist who is familiar with Esalen Institute and/or human potential and spirituality and is willing and able to visit our property to really become immersed in the culture and the feeling of the property. The finished piece will be both printed and used online and we’d like it to feel both ancient and timeless and as natural and magical as the land and people who have come through here.

This project pays $2000 and includes a sponsored weekend trip to Esalen (airfare not included).

Succesful applicants must have illustration/map examples or interactive visual tour examples and be willing to visit our property in-person.
